Kick-ass time is back! When the Last Brigade begins its mission of rebuilding America, they find enemies on all sides. In nearby Prescott, Arizona, a maniacal warlord proclaims himself the legitimate successor to the USA. To the east lurks the strange religious cult named the Caliphate of the Seven Prayers of the New Prophet, which kills anyone who doesn't convert. And why is a Chinese military vehicle found to the north? In a tornado of exploding metal, Nick Angriff risks everyone and everything to save the innocents he has sworn to protect. Outnumbered and outgunned, the 7th Cavalry will not be outfought. They must either stand in the storm or see their beloved country die a final death.

This is the second part of the Last brigade series and it delivers with a focus on the characters and the new world they face, Thank God the author didn't load this one up with right wing drivel like the last one, although there is a hint that there will be more right wing whining about the "leftist" in future novels after a revelation by Gen Angriff. This novel deals with the 7th Cavalry Brigade fighting various enemies in their area. The action is fast paced and a page turner and further questions are added to this story that I hope will be cleared up in future ones such as why Nipple hates the general. There are a few mistakes that shows the author didn't consult any military sources while writing such as a gunner on a tank coming out of a "gunner's hatch" on the Abrams. There is no such hatch on an Abrams for a gunner and a tank commander underneath her tank checking torsion bars. You can't see torsion bars because they are embedded in the hull so if you were under a tank the only thing you would see would be the steel hull and nothing else. If the torsion bars were broken you wouldn't need to climb under a tank because the side the torsion bar iis broken on would have the road wheel it is attached to sitting higher than the other road wheels and the tank would slightly lean to the side. I know because i was a US Army tanker for 12 years and had broken torsion bars. Other than those few little quibbles this is a solid novel where the author puts the focus on a good story instead of ranting about the right wing beliefs nobody cares about.Product details

Standing in the Storm Last Brigade William Alan Webb 9781940520810 Books Reviews
Just like book one, I ate book two in one day. Man I love this series!
This book is just good stuff. There's a lot to like here. Lots of fabulous characters, a great concept, layers of plot, and plenty of action.
Our American soldiers wake up to an unrecognizable world after being frozen for 50 years. Scouts discover tyrant regimes selling innocents into slavery. Let's just say that pissed off the good guys. They go in guns blazing against unknown enemies of unknown strength. And they still get surprised.
If you don't enjoy these books, maybe reading isn't your thing.
Fabulous 2nd book in this "Last Brigade" series. After reading the 1st book, I could hardly wait to read the 2nd book. Fabulous characters, lots of action. The imaginative premise of this series should be appealing to folks who enjoy political thrillers, military action, sci-fi and many other genres. So, now I can hardly wait for the 3rd book of this series. The author of this new series, William Alan Webb, has been added to my "must read" list.
Even if she was, the temporary joy of finding a planted coin don't last long. Ya patriotic? Don't mind a widdle dash of digital blood & guts in reading? If ya get a mite woozy, don't fret. The General Angriff, aka, Nick the A, will give ya a hand. Waking up a few hundred years afterwards from cryrogenic sleep hasn't addled his commitment one bit. That promise to revive the USA from enemies foreign & domestic. If finding a couple of nihilistic bad orgs was not bad enuff, the back to back battles in sequence had one good point. It bonded his new command under the 7th Calvary Flag. Whether Marines, Aviators, Army, or special ops, there is no denying that they fought , died, got wounded, and survived as AMERICANS! MAGA
The three books that comprise this series (so far) are some of the best post-Collapse fiction I have read, truly epic in approach. The end of civilization as we know it is a bit scattershot, and seems to be an amalgam of every angry person's complaints about modern life, but it doesn't really matter. The story hinges on the plan to put a military unit into Long Sleep so that it can be there for the rebuilding phase; the unit is to be led by the U.S. finest fighting general, Nick Angriff. Of course, there is a conspiracy, there are enemies foreign and domestic, and the author pushes his politics a less than subtle way, as is his right.
At its heart, however, this series is a clear presentation of the military task faced by the new "7th Cavalry" in the American Southwest and its leader, and it is fascinating.
This book was a significant improvement over the first book of the series. Mercifully, the author stopped preaching his alt-right conspiracy theories and focused on the mash-up action when three irregular military units clash in post-apocalyptic Arizona. Yes, we have some quibbles. The characters remain one-dimensional. Pitting Americans against Islamic and Chinese opponents is hardly original. And there is no way good Cuban cigars can survive 50 years of cold storage after The Collapse. However there is enough old school, military sci-fi here for a guilty pleasure, summer read. We hope the author continues the series in this vein – – no politics and all action. PS. After our blistering review of the first book in this series, we decided we would not read its sequels due to its cultural intolerance. Well, one member of the Homespun Adventures team broke ranks, read this sequel and convinced the rest of us it was fun enough to give the series and second shot. So much for our first boycott.
This book is a great example of why this reviewer does not like to read series books that are in progress. I have finished book 2 in the series and want to read the next installment and surprise it is not done. Now I have to wait 6 months or a year for the next book (unless Mr. Webb can write as fast as Asimov did or Nuttal does).
Overall, the Standing in the Storm is an real page turner, as other reviewers have stated. Not being an expert on the M-1 Abrams (the last tank I drove was an M-48) I cannot speak to the issues that others talked about with the tank, But I know the sounds that small arms make hitting a turret and Mr. Wells does a pretty good job of describing them. It is also nice to see him give my Marines credit for standing the ground and doing what needs to be done.
IMO a reader needs to read the first book in the series in order to fully enjoy this volume. That said, I would recommend it to a reader of Science fiction of Military fiction.
