A friend give me a copy of Gaurav Mathur's Byte. As a Indian-American psychiatrist, I was naturally curious about what a technothriller involving an Indian psychiatrist might look like. I was blown away ! The book drew me in at the beginning, and and didn't let go till I was finished over four hours later. It's tightly plotted and nicely researched, with an original idea and some sophisticated twists and reversals. The protagonist is rendered in 3-D with vulnerabilities, hopes and fantasies like many of us. The author has an excellent ear for the rhythms and patterns of dialogue, so the exchanges in the book rang very true. Byte also sets up the ending in a 'Sixth Sense' kind of way, making one look back and see that, indeed, all the pieces were in place. I know little about technology but liked the mind and brain analogy between the artificial intelligence (AI) featured in the book and the circuitry through which it functions. Also, corporate sketchiness is fully on display in this book. All and all, I would say this book reminded me of Angels and Demons, sans the excessive detail and Illuminati paranoia. Well-written, with character development and knowledge of AI. And just a quick, fun read. Looking forward to any follow-up novels from this author, who is potentially an Indian Dan Brown.Product details

Mathur's inaugural novel is a tour de force. His prose is elegantly written and the plot unfolds in unexpected ways. I can't wait for the next one.
